Jelani and the Seven Cows

Jelani and the Seven Cows

Long ago, in a land far away, there lived a young man named Jelani. He was the son of a wealthy and powerful chief, and he had a gift for interpreting dreams. One night, he had a strange dream that troubled him greatly. He dreamed that he saw seven fat and healthy cows grazing by the river, followed by seven thin and sickly cows that devoured the fat ones. He woke up with a start and wondered what the dream meant.

The next day, he went to his father and told him about his dream. His father was intrigued and asked him to interpret it. Jelani thought for a while and said, "Father, I think this dream is a warning from the Lord. The seven fat cows represent seven years of plenty and prosperity for our land, but the seven thin cows represent seven years of famine and hardship that will follow. We must prepare ourselves for the coming crisis and store up food and water for the future."

His father was impressed by his son's wisdom and decided to heed his advice. He ordered his people to gather as much grain and meat as they could and store them in large granaries and warehouses. He also instructed them to dig wells and reservoirs to collect water. He appointed Jelani as his chief adviser and put him in charge of the preparations.

For seven years, the land was blessed with abundant harvests and rains, and the people were happy and prosperous. Jelani made sure that a portion of the produce was saved and stored every year, and he kept a careful record of the supplies. He also distributed the food and water fairly among the people, and ensured that everyone had enough to eat and drink.

But after the seven years of plenty, the seven years of famine began. The crops failed, the rivers dried up, and the animals died. The people began to suffer and starve, and many became sick and weak. But thanks to Jelani's foresight and planning, they had enough food and water to survive the crisis. Jelani opened the granaries and warehouses and gave out the supplies to the people. He also traded some of the food and water with neighboring lands, and gained their respect and friendship.

The famine lasted for seven years, but Jelani and his people endured it with courage and faith. They prayed to the Lord for mercy and relief, and hoped for better days to come.

Finally, the famine ended, and the land was restored to its former glory. The crops grew again, the rivers flowed again, and the animals thrived again. The people rejoiced and celebrated, and thanked Jelani for his wisdom and leadership. They hailed him as a hero and a savior, and his father was proud of him.

Jelani was humble and grateful, and he gave all the glory to the gods. He said, "It was not I who saved you, but the Lord who gave me the dream and the ability to interpret it. He is the one who deserves our praise and worship. Let us always remember His kindness and generosity, and never take His blessings for granted. Let us also learn from this experience, and always be prepared for the future, whatever it may bring."
